SWEDEN: Proposal for temporary gambling restrictions during COVID-19 crisis

On 23 April, the Swedish government unveiled a government bill aimed at limiting players' gamblers' exposure to harm during the COVID-19 crisis. The government's proposal consists of a temporary decree introducing the following measures:

  • A weekly gambling deposit limit of SEK 5,000 with a corresponding limitation of loss for vending machines.
  • A mandatory requirement for players to set time limits for online casino gambling and gambling on vending machines.
  • An SEK100 limitation on bonus offers.

The bill is currently on referral until 7 May. The decree is proposed to enter into force on 1 June and remain in effect up to and including 31 December 2020.
