Spain: Draft regulation on safer gambling environments

Ten years after the online gambling activities were regulated for the first time in Spain, the Advisory Council for Responsible Gambling has addressed in its virtual plenary session on September 24, 2021, the draft Royal Decree regulating the development of safer gambling environments.

The main objective of this new draft Royal Decree is, now that Spain has a consolidated online gambling market, to ensure that players have access to a safer gambling environment as well as to better protect vulnerable groups, such as minors. Responsible gambling matters and protection of minors has always been a priority for the Spanish regulator. The final approval of this draft Royal Decree will imply the need for current licensed online gambling operators to make some updates and changes in their current procedures to ensure safer gambling offer.
