With heightened consumer awareness surrounding animal welfare issues, brands are increasingly promoting their ethical credentials on packaging and in their advertising. However, the lack of harmonized rules in the EU on animal welfare labelling means consumers are at risk of being confused and misled, and brands risk a PR backlash in the face of “human washing” claims.
